Deb, Bud and Ed met and played at the Rose Bay bluegrass jam for over a year. In December of 2022 we were invited to perform gospel and Christmas songs at the Chapel of Faith in Port Orange. After that experience, we decided to form a band and thus Salty Grass came to be.
Our first performance outside of Rose Bay jam was at the Barberville Spring Frolic in April 2023. We performed two half hour sets and hosted a bluegrass jam. During the summer and fall we continued to perform at Barberville for their Playing on the Porches events the first Saturday of each month and at the Fall Harvest Festival in November.
Over the past three years we have performed at regional libraries throughout Volusia County and at private concerts. In November of 2024 and 2025 we were the opening act at the South Daytona Barbeque and Bluegrass festival. Most recently we performed at Palatka's Playing on the Porches and at the Ormond Beach Library where we did another Christmas program.
In the fall of 2023 we took over the hosting of the weekly bluegrass jam held every Monday evening (except during Bike Week and Daytona 500 weeks) at the Rose Bay Campground on Nova Road in Port Orange. Details are on the Jam page.
The band pictured above is (L to R): Scott Crone (mandolin), Bud Stephens (Guitar & Mandolin), Bill Miller (bass), Deb Bowling (Guitar) and Ed Tobin (guitar & banjo). We all sing!
